Disclaimer – This post is a review of a cleaning product called Deft. In return for a fair and honest review, I was sent products to sample. At the end of the post, I have a discount code if you wish to purchase from Deft.
This might seem an unusual product review for me to carry out. Cleaning products…I mean, why would I review a cleaning product? Cleaning is difficult due to my pain and it’s certainly not something I enjoy doing. Who does? However, it’s a chore that, like it or not, needs to be done. But still, why would I, a chronic illness blogger, review cleaning products?
I will explain…
I was approached by Deft a few weeks ago. The lady told me that their product has a feature that could be an advantage for people who suffer from painful hands.
Painful hands. She sold it to me with those two words. Lately, I have been having pain everywhere, literally from my head to my toes. My hands feel stiff and sore. I’ve been getting bouts of hand pain since I was a teenager. A few years ago, a rheumatologist diagnosed it as palindromic arthritis. Perhaps that is flaring up. Or perhaps my body is just not liking me very much just now. (I think it’s the latter.)
Anyway, back to Deft…
She explained that Deft has a unique patented spray bottle. A very gentle touch on the trigger will produce a continuous fine spray. There’s no need to squeeze or keep pumping an awkward trigger. It sounded good and I could see exactly why cleaning with Deft could be easier for anyone with painful hands.

Deft Cleaning Spray Stood Up to the Manufacturer’s Claims
I was very pleasantly surprised when I received my Deft cleaning products. Very often, products don’t stand up to the claims made by the manufacturer. But Deft did.
Sure enough, I touched the trigger gently and it worked exactly as described. It’s simple to use and needs virtually no pressure. And, since it is a continuous spray, there is no need to pump a trigger.
I know that some people might read this and think what’s the big deal about pressing a trigger on a normal bottle. But believe me, when you have painful hands and fingers, it is a big deal.
The spray is an aerosol but the bottle (which is fully recyclable) contains no nasty gas. Instead of gas, it is powered by compressed air therefore it is environmentally friendly in comparison to traditional aerosol sprays. The owner of the company appeared on Dragon’s Den several years ago with this spray bottle and won the backing of two dragons.
Since the liquid comes out in a continuous fine mist, it gives good coverage. When you squeeze the trigger on a normal bottle, the liquid comes out in a short burst and you normally end up with a puddle of liquid on one area. With one gentle touch of the Deft trigger, you can point and spray to cover a whole area with a fine mist.
Due to how the aerosol works, you can spray the bottle in any position. If you hold the bottle upside down to direct the spray at awkward areas (like under the rim of the toilet or behind taps), it still works. I’ve never known any other spray bottle to work like that. Also, because of this special design, the spray will work until the bottle is completely empty. I always get a bit annoyed when my spray bottles stop working when there is still an inch of liquid in the bottle. Some have safety lids that are secure, so I can’t even open the bottles to retrieve the remainder of the liquid. I’ve paid for it so I want to use every bit of it! With Deft, I should be able to do that.
So the spray bottle is brilliant and it definitely gets a thumbs up from me. But what about the actual cleaning products?
How Did Deft Cleaning Products Perform?
Deft sent me a bottle of kitchen cleaner and a bottle of glass cleaner. They also make a bathroom cleaner and a daily shower spray. All their cleaning products are 100% plant-based, non-toxic and cruelty-free.
When I write a product review, I always use the products so that I can write an honest review.
By pacing myself, I was able to use the Deft cleaning products over the first few days after receiving them. Then my pain spiralled out of control, especially my ribs, so cleaning became out of the question. However, I believe I have used the products enough to be able to write this post.
Deft Kitchen Spray
The kitchen cleaner has a lovely tangerine fragrance. I’ve used it on all the usual kitchen areas – worktops, cupboard doors, sink, taps, and draining board. It works and works well. The mist spray covered the area I wanted to clean then I gave it a quick wipe. I didn’t need to put in too much effort to ensure the surfaces were clean. There’s no residue left behind, just clean, grease-free surfaces.
I also used it on a metal grill tray. We had cooked sausages in the oven on it, and it was pretty messy afterwards with baked-on sticky grease. I was about to soak it in hot water when I decided instead to give it a spray with Deft. I left it for a couple of minutes then gave it a wipe and it cleaned up instantly with no scrubbing.
Deft Glass Cleaner
The glass cleaner’s fragrance is called Tuscan sunlight. I started out with an easy task and cleaned the bathroom mirror. And I will be honest – I was amazed. When I sprayed, a fine mist covered the mirror and I wiped it off with some kitchen roll. It was sparkling clean and I didn’t have to polish excessively to get rid of streaks. I was impressed. I later used it on a window with the same results. In all honesty, I think this is the best window and glass cleaner I have ever used.
A Note About the Fragrances
I liked the fragrances of the cleaning products, but I know that a lot of people are very sensitive to smells. Sometimes smells can trigger some conditions like migraines and trigeminal neuralgia. The fragrances weren’t overpowering, but they are noticeable. I am fairly sensitive to fragrances but I could use these without a problem.
Deft Virusend Disinfectant
As well as the cleaning products, Deft also sent me a bottle of their Virusend disinfectant spray. Deft partnered with the British Army to develop a military-grade disinfectant spray. It is certified to kill more than 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including cold and flu viruses. And most importantly, it can kill covid 19, including the Delta variant.
The disinfectant spray is unscented. I, like most people, have spent the last year and a half wiping everything from tins of baked beans to door handles, often with bleach. So if this disinfectant works in the same way, without the harshness of bleach, it’s a winner. You can spray it and leave it to dry or you can leave it for a minute or so then wipe it off. If you are using it on food preparation areas, they advise you to wipe it off.
My Final Thoughts on Cleaning With Deft
Because the spray comes out in such a fine mist, much less liquid is used compared to traditional bottles of spray cleaners. So as well as the other benefits, it could work out cheaper. I like that!
Overall, I liked Deft cleaning products and would be happy to use them. Ok, happy is the wrong word. I still don’t like cleaning! But my painful hands did like that spray. And the cleaning products worked well. As they say, it does what it says on the tin.

Hahah what timing! I’m thrilled to see you review Deft, too. It sounds like you got on a little better than I did with the trigger heads – I liked the feather touch lightness to depress them, that was much welcomed by my painful joints, but the head was so small that I couldn’t get the hang of holding it properly. I also found streaks when using the glass cleaner, but from your experience I’m now wondering whether I should have actually sprayed it and left it for a while before wiping.
I loved Virusend too. Still not keen on the little spray head but the product itself is incredible. As you say, that one’s a winner.
Fantastic write-up of Deft & Virusend, Liz!!

I am just about to comment on your post. Yeah, our timing is impeccable lol.
I am tall with long hands and fingers, so perhaps that’s why I got on so well with the spray. It really felt comfortable for me to use. When I did my mirror and window, I wiped with kitchen roll rather than use a sponge or cloth. Perhaps that helped stop streaks.
The Virusend is fabulous, isn’t it. I see they sell a travel size bottle which would be handy for keeping in the car.
Thanks for commenting, Caz.
It’s great that you found these easy to use. I’m unable to use my hand s much at all, but I like that thought has gone into these.
