Generally speaking, pain doesn’t like cold weather – everything tends to hurt more which means I need to find ways to stay warm. It’s easy to cover up with coats, hats, gloves, and warm socks, but what about my face? It’s open to the elements. How to Help People Understand Your Pain
Pain is personal, isn’t it? Two people who live with the same condition experience it differently. That doesn’t stop them from understanding the pain they each live with. In support groups, people really do understand how the pain affects you. But do other people? Is it possible to help people understand the pain?
After I published this post this post to explain what trigeminal neuralgia feels like, someone told me that nobody understands the condition, so there’s no point in even trying to explain it.
Jokes About Disabled People Are Not Funny
I like to think I have a sense of humour. Most days I laugh about something. I even laugh at myself and my disability. But I would never laugh at or make fun of other people’s disabilities. But comedians, and even some well-known politicians, have cruelly poked fun and made…
Why is Appearance so Important to People?

Feeling Like A Failure Was One of My Failings
If someone has fulfilled their hopes and dreams, is well off, has a fancy car and a five-bedroomed house in a nice area, they’re considered successful. Qualifications, careers, acquired wealth, sporting victories and acting awards all seem to measure a person’s success. But when people live with chronic pain or…
Ten Good Intentions to Carry into the New Year
Here we are, celebrating the start of another new year. Each new year, people make resolutions. I’m not so keen on that term. Resolutions are seldom kept. I prefer to write a list of intentions. Good intentions which I will try to carry on in the new year. I really…
I Am Not My Pain
It can often feel as though it comes along like a thief in the night and takes away part of ourselves. It creeps into the deepest crevices of our beings, then wears us down until there is virtually nothing left. It destroys who we are.
But it is important to remember that there’s more to us than pain.
